Precision ventilation concepts for Supervisors, Farm Managers, and Field Veterinarians
Introduction:
The Ventilation Workshop is a specialized training program designed to equip poultry farm personnel with hands-on knowledge and practical skills in environmental management. Held alongside the Gulf Poultry Science Conference and VIV MEA 2025, this workshop focuses on optimizing airflow, temperature, and humidity control in poultry houses to enhance bird health, productivity, and welfare.
Participants will explore the science and systems behind effective ventilation including fan and inlet operation, tunnel ventilation design, evaporative cooling, and energy-efficient technologies. Through real-world strategies and technical insights, the workshop empowers poultry professionals to manage climate-related challenges and improve overall farm performance.
Aim: To equip poultry farm personnel with practical knowledge and skills to effectively manage environmental conditions within poultry houses for optimal bird health, performance, and welfare.
Objectives:
Understand the principles of ventilation, air quality, and moisture control.
Learn to assess and improve poultry house tightness and airflow.
Gain practical skills in operating and maintaining fan and inlet systems.
Apply strategies to manage heat stress and maintain proper bird density.
Design and evaluate tunnel ventilation systems for uniform airspeed.
Implement and maintain efficient evaporative cooling systems and energy-saving fans.
VENTILATION WORKSHOP
Modules
Module 1:
Effective Ventilation for Managing Air Quality and Moisture
Understand how proper ventilation helps maintain bird health by reducing ammonia levels and excess moisture. Key for daily supervision and long-term flock health.
Module 2:
Basics of Negative Pressure & Evaluating House Tightness
Learn how to check and improve building tightness to ensure controlled airflow — a core responsibility for managers and supervisors aiming for efficient ventilation.
Module 3:
Optimizing Perimeter Inlets and Circulation Fans
Detailed guidance on setting up and managing inlets and fans to ensure consistent air distribution. Important for routine farm checks and equipment evaluation.
Module 4:
Bird Cooling, Heat Stress Management & Stocking Density
Essential for preventing losses in hot weather. Learn practical cooling methods and how stocking density impacts heat stress and welfare.
Module 5:
Tunnel Ventilation Design & Achieving Uniform Airspeed
Ensure even air movement across the house. Critical knowledge for anyone overseeing facility design or troubleshooting performance issues.
Module 6:
Evaporative Cooling Systems, Fan Efficiency & Maintenance
Explore the correct use and upkeep of evaporative cooling systems and fans. A must-know for maintaining bird comfort and minimizing energy costs.
