I think it has been a year since I last contributed to the Newsletter. I want to thank my longtime friend, Dr. Avigdor Cahaner, for taking over as the editor of the Newsletter. WPSA is fortunate to have another devoted member like Dr. Cahaner take the lead, following the years of guidance by Dr. Gerry Havenstein. I also recognize Dorien Velner for assisting in the development of the Newsletter.

In 2023, I represented WPSA at the IPPE in Atlanta and the Pacific Egg and Poultry Association (PePa) meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona, where the United States Branch of WPSA sponsors the PePa Student Program.

Besides my Treasurer duties, I also participated in reviewing proposals for Travel Grants and Branch Development support. After the WPC in Paris, I pointed out that some members wasted the volunteer time of committee members, particularly students who did not follow directions. However, this reminder is not only for students. Some senior members also need to follow application guidelines carefully for Speakers’ Bureau and Branch Development awards. If awarded, it is your responsibility to keep proper and complete paperwork.

WPSA Board met in Krakow, Poland, prior to the Working Group meetings on Egg and Poultry Meat Quality. Our hosts from the Polish Branch organized excellent meetings, and all participants enjoyed wonderful Polish hospitality. At the Board meeting, there were discussions on membership issues, including branches behind in dues payments and the tiered structure of membership fees. It is essential for WPSA members to pay their dues on time to maintain the association’s solvency.
