1. The WPSA Indonesia promotes the poultry sectors through a strategic partnership with the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya

The WPSA Indonesia and the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Malang, East Java (https://fapet.ub.ac.id/en/), signed a five-year strategic partnership on June 25, 2025 (2025–2029). The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. M. Halim Natsir, dean of the Faculty of Animal Science UB, and Dr. Maria Ulfah, president of WPSA Indonesia, with the goal of advancing poultry science and Indonesia’s poultry industry. Under the leadership of Dr. Yuli Frita Nuningtyas, the WPSA Indonesia-East Java Regional Commission is facilitating the partnership, which will focus on academic exchanges with visiting lecturers, co-hosting seminars, and cooperative research. The Faculty of Animal Science offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in animal science, including the Smart Livestock Industry program. Immediate future plans for the collaboration include expanded research networks, visiting lecturer exchanges, and poultry science seminars. Both sides emphasized how important the collaboration is in bridging the gap between academic research and practical application in order to support the human capital and long-term growth of the poultry industry.

On July 3, 2025, WPSA Indonesia also successfully hosted a national seminar on the topic of “Application of Precision Nutrition, Feed Additives, and Feed Supplements to Enhance Poultry Productivity.” President of WPSA Indonesia Dr. Maria Ulfah and Vice President for Cooperation and Development (drh. Chutaemil Marom, MBA.) were also in attendance. Two experts, Dr. Gangga Anindito Widyanugraha from the Olmix Group, and Dr. Irfan Djunaidi from Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya gave presentations on the newest developments in feed additives and supplements as well as how to maximize poultry nutrition. In order to combat the growing costs of feed, which account for about 70% of production costs, Dr. Djunaidi emphasized the significance of precision nutrition. He underlined how it can increase sustainability, efficiency, and lessen the impact on the environment. Dr. Widyanugraha emphasized the ways in which contemporary feed technologies can improve the resilience, health, and performance of poultry. The seminar, which was moderated by Dr. Suluh Nusantoro, attracted over 120 participants from academia, industry, and poultry farms, demonstrating how relevant the topics were to the issues facing the current issues in poultry production in Indonesia. The event reaffirmed WPSA Indonesia’s goal of connecting industry, academia, and research to promote sustainable poultry development.

  1. Two members of WPSA Indonesia have completed their doctoral studies.

WPSA Indonesia has strengthened its research contributions with the recent PhDs of its members. On 17 June 2025, Suluh Nusantoro, the Vice Chair of WPSA Indonesia’s East Java Regional Commission, graduated with a PhD from Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya in Malang, East Java. In order to enrich eggs with astaxanthin, his research investigated feeding laying hens with golden apple snail eggs as a feed supplement. His dissertation titled “The Efficacy of Golden Apple Snail (Pomacea canaliculata) Eggs as a Feed Supplement on Production Performance, Egg Quality, and Nutrigenomic Study in Laying Hens. Addition of snail eggs up to 4% enhanced the colour of the egg yolk and the astaxanthin concentration without having an adverse effect on the health or performance of the hens. The safety and effectiveness of this innovative strategy were further validated by nutrigenomic analysis. Dr. Nusantoro is officially work at Animal Science Department, Politeknik Negeri Jember, East Java (https://peternakan.polije.ac.id/).

The chair of the WPSA Indonesia’s West Java 1 & Banten Regional Commission, Arif Darmawan, graduated on June 13, 2025 with a PhD from Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), Samsun, Turkey. His dissertation entitled “Potential of Heated Hempseed Cake and Phytase as Alternatives to Soybean Meal: Nutritional and Health Impacts on Poultry and Functional Poultry Product Development”. Poultry health and product quality are enhanced by hempseed cake, which is rich in healthy compounds. By increasing nutrient absorption even more, supplemental phytase produces high-value poultry products and lessens dependency on imported feed. Throughout his PhD, Dr. Darmawan produced eleven proceedings from international conferences, a book chapter, and eight articles in international journals. Recognizing the Turkish government’s assistance and stressing the value of international cooperation and sustainable feed innovation, he earned his PhD with honours. The accomplishments of Dr. Darmawan and Dr. Nusantoro both demonstrate WPSA Indonesia’s dedication to greatly enhance the organization’s research capabilities.
