Organizational Setting
The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA's Major Programme 2, "Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection". This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies. These programmes are supported by laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco and Vienna. The Major Programme's objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes.
The Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture assists Member States of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the IAEA in using nuclear techniques and related technologies to improve food security, alleviate poverty and promote sustainable agriculture. The Joint Division consists of five Sections, each with an associated laboratory (located in Seibersdorf, 45 km south-east of Vienna), in the areas of: animal production and health; plant breeding and genetics; insect pest control; soil and water management and crop nutrition; and food and environmental protection.The Animal Production and Health Section and Laboratory assist Member States in improving livestock productivity through the efficient use of locally available feed resources, reproduction and breeding practices, and disease diagnostic tools and control measures.
Main Purpose
As a member of a team led by the Section Head, the Livestock Geneticist/Breeder provides expertise and services in the optimal utilization of local livestock genetic resources to ensure maximum productivity and the maintenance of biodiversity. She/he also provides technical and strategic advice and services to FAO and IAEA Member States through design, technical backstopping, and support for the implementation and appraisal of projects aimed at the sustainable enhancement of animal production.
Role
The Livestock Geneticist/Breeder is: (1) a technical officer and research coordinator, ensuring the efficient and effective development, implementation and dissemination of research, training and scientific and technical knowledge, and evaluating and implementing TC projects and coordinated research projects (CRPs) for the IAEA and FAO; (2) a technical expert, planning and conducting technical meetings and project review missions; (3) a facilitator, working with Member States to meet their national and regional agricultural development objectives, and; (4) a liaison with relevant stakeholders on issues related to the transfer of sampling and analytical technologies to Member States.

World’s Poultry Science Journal Editor
The editor of the World’s Poultry Science Journal (WPS Journal) is appointed by the Board of the World’s Poultry Science Association (WPSA). The appointment is for a 4-year term with automatic renewal dependent upon a favourable annual review to be conducted by the WPSA Journal Publication Committee.
Duties and responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for editorial oversight and decision making, alongside a team of Associate Editors, using the Journal’s online submission and peer review system, ScholarOne. He or she will have authority to accept articles following successful peer review, and will ensure that all stakeholders adhere to the Journal’s code of publishing ethics. There will be an agreed handover period with the retiring interim Editor-in-Chief to ensure seamless transition.
An Editorial Board consisting of researchers and scientists, all experts in different fields of poultry production, assist the editor. The editor will engage with members of the Editorial Board on agreeing the best content and direction of the Journal.
The editor will be supported in all activities by Taylor & Francis, publisher of the WPS Journal.
Routine communication between the editor and the WPSA Board will be through the WPSA Secretary General. The editor reports on all matters concerning publishing policy and business arrangements including agreements with any third party relating to the Journal. The editor attends Board and Council meetings.
Qualifications required
- A scientific qualification with primary specialization in poultry science
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are essential
- Prior experience as an author and/or reviewer for a journal
- Knowledge of the poultry industry including research, education and organization
- Have office facilities, preferably at home
- Member of WPSA
- Communicative and willing to attend, and contribute to, calls and meetings regarding the strategic development of the journal
Highly desirable
- Previous Editor-in-Chief or Editorial Board publishing experience
- Knowledge /experience of ScholarOne Manuscripts
- Experience of the use of social media
- Readily available and flexible in working time including willingness to travel
